Get Marty: PWSA Fixes Water Main Break, Chips Out Ice-Covered Cars

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A group of citizens with cars frozen to their street reached out to Get Marty.

Folks along Forbes Avenue in the Uptown section of the city haven't been able to use their cars for more than a week. Some of the folks have medical conditions. Some of them folks are college students just trying to get to class.

"It's horrible," says life-long resident Sandy Kirkavitch.

Turns out, a water main break started the problem. Frozen water from the break covered six to 10 cars in ice. Folks couldn't get any help. That's when they called Get Marty.

"I feel terrible for them. It's awful," says Melissa Rubin, with the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority.

Rubin promised PWSA would have the water leak fixed and the cars out of the ice by the end of Wednesday, and PWSA delivered.

Crews worked all day, chipping away at the ice. Finally, the cars were out of the ice jam.

"I'm so happy. I want to thank Marty Griffin," says Sally Harvey.

Pittsburgh Public Works crew also helped clean up the mess.

This problem was solved within 12 hours after we asked for help.
