Pirates' Owner Nutting Sets High Expectations For 2015

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Pirates Chairman of the Board Bob Nutting addressed his team and then the media under overcast skies at Pirate City late Wednesday morning.

Nutting wasn't shy about setting the bar high for his 2015 Pirates.

What are those expectations?

"At the end of the season, what that means, is that we plan to win the division and then see how far we can go, and move on to win a championship for Pittsburgh again," Nutting said.

Nutting also addressed a number of topics ranging from the team's financial flexibility, to some of the new initiatives rookie MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred is putting into motion.

Nutting was asked about the Pirates' access to procuring talent both through the amateur draft, but also about a possible international draft.

Nutting said that the international draft, "would be very good for the Pittsburgh Pirates."

Nutting wouldn't acknowledge whether or not that the ability to infuse talent into the system is better or worse off than it was when he first became Chairman of the Board. Instead, Nutting said with a smile, "It's different."

"What we need to do as an organization is adapt and be realistic that it's never going to be a level playing field."

Nutting also cited that his organization's biggest strength has been to adapt to changing circumstances in that regard.
