Baden Tax Collector Resigns Amid Probe Of Missing Tax Office Money

BADEN (KDKA) -- The tax collector in Baden, Beaver County, resigned Thursday amid an audit and investigation underway into major tax receipt discrepancies both in the Borough of Baden and Ambridge School District.

The missing money was collected by Cynthia Kristek's office, which has been run by her husband, Keith Kristek.

Richard Start, the Baden solicitor, told KDKA-TV News late Thursday that the Baden Borough Council will likely meet next week to accept Kristek's resignation.

Then, the Council will appoint a temporary tax collector, until a special election in November, which will be scheduled to fill Kristek's term that expires at the end of 2017.

Earlier this week, KDKA-TV News broke the story of a "substantial amount" of money missing from the Baden tax office.

The Beaver County District Attorney's Office has launched an investigation into the financial records.
