Rochester Residents On Alert After Attempted Child Luring

ROCHESTER (KDKA) - An attempted luring near a Beaver County elementary school has the district and parents on alert.

The attempted luring took place on Madison Street in Rochester Wednesday afternoon.

Three boys walking home from Rochester Elementary School got quite the scare. The children said two to three men in a red van stopped them and tried to lure them inside by offering money.

"The children were frightened, but they did the right thing. They ran and they notified their parents and the parents notified the school," Superintendent Dr. Jane Bovalino said.

Doctor jane says the district immediately contacted the police. Parents were notified via the school messenger system and by a letter on the school's website.

The attempted luring marks the first incident of its kind this school year.

"We really have emphasized this with the parents to use the buddy system when their kids are walking home and to practice stranger danger,"

After learning about what happened, parents were taking extra precautions.

"They should be old enough to walk by themselves, but I don't trust anybody so that's the end of that. I'll be walking them every day now," Dave Mosholder said.

"If you look online, there's a lot of offenders that live here in this town and are a close by. That's why I always walk her to school and I walk her back home. I don't let her by herself," Tiffany Jury said.

School officials and police are asking the public to be extra vigilant and if you see this red van around the area and it feels suspicious, call police.
