DA To Meet With Officials After Strip District Club Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The District Attorney's Office wants to make sure a shooting at Ivy Pittsburgh Night Club on 19th Street never happens again.

Detectives from the office are working on getting some reports from the city so they can analyze police activity at the location. Local business owners aren't wasting time either.

"We will be talking to some people to see if we can get the problem addressed," Primanti's Operations Director Mike Mitcham said.

The original Primanti's restaurant is right across the street from Ivy. Managers say the restaurant built its tradition on late night business in the Strip District.

"Over the years, things like this have happened and it does affect our business at night. We're open 24 hours here and we're a little concerned," Mitcham said.

Police say the shooting happened around 1 a.m. Sunday. Officers were in the area and heard shots fired.

"Turned, then saw people running out of the club. Literally, people were coming out over the balcony trying to escape gunfire inside," Pittsburgh Police Spokesperson Sonya Toler said.

One person was shot in the right thigh and finger. Four women and a man were injured by broken glass.

"There [have been] issues up and down the Strip over the last decade or 15 years or so," Mitcham said.

On New Year's Day 2012, Shateecha Roach, 27, was shot and killed near Club Fever, which used to be close to where Ivy is now. Two other people were injured.

District Attorney Spokesman Mike Manko said in a statement over the weekend:

"Our office is quite concerned with the history of various license holders who have been in that location. That location over the years has spent time on the nuisance bar list and our office will be meeting with city police and the LCE tomorrow to see what needs to be done to prevent this type of incident."

Police are still looking for the shooter. If you were at Ivy over the weekend and have a description of that shooter, police are asking you to contact them.
