SUV Crashes Into Penn Twp. Home

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – First responders were called to a house in Westmoreland County after an SUV crashed into the dining room.

It happened Friday night at a home on Waugaman Street in Penn Township.

Photos from the scene show the SUV smashed in the dining room, right below the chandelier.

Police say 37-year-old Lewis Rhodes, of Export, was driving the vehicle.

Kevin Varrato took pictures after the SUV crashed into the front room narrowly missed his father who was inside.

"My elderly father was sitting in a chair and the next thing is this car in front of me and he was probably inches away from getting crushed," said Varrato.

Varrato's father wasn't actually injured, but his leg was touching the SUV.

"My dad has nine lives," he said.

However, Rhodes was taken to the hospital, but wasn't seriously injured.

A slowdown near the house is obviously there for good reason, and the homeowners say they've had drivers take out their mailbox, even go into the yard.

Clearly Rhodes was going well over the 25 mile per hour speed limit.

"It was like 'Dukes of Hazard' probably," said Varrato.

Police say Rhodes will be charged with DUI and could face additional charges.
