Tony Watson: Pirates Hungry For Division Title

PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- Pirates pitcher Tony Watson joined Chris Mack Sunday morning from Bradenton.

Even though spring training games started less than a week ago, Watson said that the club is already looking forward to starting the regular season.

"I think everybody's excited. There's a little sense of urgency, we want to go and try to win to that division this year, that's our main goal and we're pretty hungry for it. Everybody's trying to get their quality work in down here, but everybody's keeping it loose," Watson said.

Mack asked if the team discusses greater expectations with each other.

"If you can't talk about it, it's not going to happen. Our ultimate goal is to bring a World Series back to Pittsburgh," Watson said. "We definitely talk about it. It's nice to not be able to sneak up on anybody now. We know that the last couple of years we've had some success, but we're not going to sit on that success. We're trying to get a little bit better."

Watson has worked two scoreless innings in his first two spring outings, including the fifth inning in Saturday's 1-1 tie versus Tampa Bay.

"It's always good to see a different uniform in the (batter's) box and get a little bit of adrenaline flowing. Each time out you get a little bit more and more comfortable, back in the swing of things," Watson said. "I got some good work in, and go to the video (Sunday) and look at some mechanics stuff, and just like everybody down here, just trying to make steps forward til Opening Day."
