Pennsylvania Lawmaker Says He Got An IRS Scam Call, Too

LYNDORA, Pa. (AP) - Sorry scammers, you picked the wrong guy.

State Rep. Brian Ellis says someone pretending to be an IRS agent called his home last week and said he and his wife would be arrested if they didn't pay nearly $4,000 to settle a supposed debt.

Ellis tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette they realized the caller was trying to scam them when he said they owed $3,900 after setting the amount at $2,900 earlier in the conversation.

Ellis says the scammer told his wife the IRS had twice tried to notify them of the debt and that there was a warrant out for their arrest.

Ellis says he's heard from more than a dozen constituents who've received similar calls. The IRS says it never calls people for payment.
