WWE Superstars Pay Special Visit To Children's Hospital
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Some of the WWE's biggest stars were at Children's Hospital Monday.
For many kids, it was a chance to meet some of their favorite wrestlers, get their mind off their medical treatment and remember a little boy who loved the WWE.
The Eat'n Park Atrium at Children's Hospital looked like a big party Monday morning.
There were crafts, food, a DJ and photo opportunities with Sin Cara, R-Truth, Daniel Bryan, Paige and Brie Bella.
"It's a huge deal," says Ryan Twisdale, whose son, October Frost, is being treated at Children's. "He had a transplant back in December…It's an honor to share [this] with him."
The event was also a fundraiser for Connor's Cure.
It's a fund that was set up through the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation in honor of Connor Michalek. Connor, 8, died from a rare type of tumor that affects a person's brain and spinal cord. Now, the money raised in his name is helping other patients and their families.
The WWE embraced Connor – and his story. He even got to meet some of his favorite stars before he died.
"Whenever we were with them, it was like… he wasn't sick anymore," says Steve Michalek, Connor's father. "It's a little emotional for me to be here… Connor's Cure is doing a lot of good. I'm just really proud that Connor was able to make such a difference, and touch so many people's lives."
For the kids at Children's Hospital on Monday, meeting the WWE stars was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
"It was crazy, I was so excited," says Dominque Venchess. "I love [Brie Bella.] She's my favorite Diva wrestler."
Bella says, it was a great experience for the wrestlers, too.
"Kids always tell us that we put smiles on their faces. But, when you come here, they just put smiles on ours, so I love being here," she said.
