Scott Eatherton Hopes To Lead Northeastern To Upset Of Notre Dame

After learning that their 23-11 record had gotten them into the 2015 NCAA Tournament, the Northeastern Huskies were thrilled more than anything. They received a No. 14 seed and were placed in the Midwest to face off with No. 3 seeded Notre Dame in the second round. Senior forward Scott Eatherton knows that there is a tough task ahead for the Huskies.
Notre Dame is ranked 11th nationally and they defeated Duke and North Carolina in consecutive nights to win the ACC Tournament and earn their seed. Northeastern won the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament and got into the NCAA field for the first time since 1991.
Knocking off Notre Dame would be a huge upset for the Huskies, but it isn't impossible. Scott Eatherton is one of three players that averages in double figures in scoring with 14.6 points per game. It also helps that he is pulling down 6.4 rebounds per game to lead the game and also leading the team in blocks per game with 1.3.
He's played in all 34 games this season for the Huskies and is averaging more than 30 minutes per game, so he is definitely ready to put in the work. Actually, Eatherton is one of four players averaging more than 30 minutes per game, and it's a system that works for them.
Before college, Eatherton attended Hershey High School and let them to a 21-6 record as a senior along with the Mid-Penn Conference tournament titles and a share of the Mid-Penn Keystone Division title. He earned all-district honors and headed to St. Francis University in Pennsylvania.
There, he played two seasons and finished up as the leading rebounder for the team and was the second-leading scorer as a sophomore. It was his shooting percentage that caught the attention of so many people though as he shot 61.4 percent from the field and 31.6 percent from three-point range in 29 games for the Red Flash.
After transferring to Northeastern, he had to sit out a year due to NCAA regulations, but he never lost his touch.
While his three-point percentage has gone down a bit (26.7 percent) in his senior season, he is still hitting close to 60 percent of his shots from the field. Eatherton has done nothing but continue to work on his game and it has continued to improve.
He is a huge reason that the Northeastern Huskies are in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, and they really aren't quite ready to be done with their season. It's going to take a lot of work and excellent play to get them through that opening game with a win over Notre Dame.
Still, it's not something that is impossible. Big wins this season over teams like Florida State and Manhattan prove that they can run with anyone. Scott Eatherton is going to have to bring his high percentage shooting and be on point as he usually is for the Huskies to keep dancing.
