Man In Custody After Assaulting Girlfriend With Hammer While Holding Her Captive

LATROBE (KDKA) – A man is in custody after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend with a hammer over a span of several days in Westmoreland County.

According to the criminal complaint, the incident took place in an apartment in the 300-block of Spring Street in Latrobe.

The alleged assaults started on March 11. They ended on March 14, when the 40-year-old victim was able to escape and call police.

The victim told police she had been held against her will by her boyfriend, 43-year-old Glenn Whittier.

While at a local hospital, the victim said Whittier had struck her in the head and body with a hammer. She also said he pulled out part of her hair and, "poured bleach on her wounds and in her eyes."

"She came over here, had all kinds of bruises, couldn't walk or talk," said Cody Christ, a relative of the victim. "She has bleeding from the brain, two black eyes, her lips are swollen, she has two broken ribs."

Neighbors told KDKA the turmoil and terror in the apartment was regular and reported.

"This isn't the first time," Tracey Mehalic, a neighbor, said. "It's about the millionth time; I've called the police numerous times."

"He gave the vibe he was nothing but trouble, kept my kids away from him," said Matthew Yanits, another neighbor.

Whittier was arrested after Myers' daughter and her boyfriend called the police.

Whittier was taken to the Westmoreland County Prison, where he is being held on a $100,000 straight cash bond.

He is facing a list of charges including, false imprisonment, unlawful restraint, aggravated assault and simple assault.
