16-Year-Old Family Horse Killed By Suspected Drunk Driver

PORTERSVILLE (KDKA) – An alleged drunk driver took the life of a beloved family pet in Butler County.

A busted telephone pole and tire tracks in the mud show the path from the car of a suspected drunk driver who barreled across a Portersville field.

Tuesday a car driven by a Portersville man hit and killed a 16-year-old horse, known as Sierra.

"She was part of the family," said Kenny Albert.

Albert loved Sierra. He had the horse for four years and rode the Tennessee Walker all the time.

"I rode every Sunday for five to six hours," he said. "I tried to ride one or two nights a week. I would ride her to the house, the kids would ride her, a lot of family would ride her. She was a very good horse and will be deeply missed."

Albert got a phone call shortly after the accident and rushed to the field where he kept the horse. He saw the path of the accident and the driver who state police say caused it.

"Lost control of the vehicle," said Albert, "sheared off a telephone pole, proceeded down into a pasture, approximately 100 yards. When he hit my horse, took her right out."

Meantime, the driver of the vehicle was taken to a local hospital with what are described as minor injuries.

State Police are awaiting toxicology tests to determine whether or not the driver was drunk.
