Police Seek Suspects After Gunfire Erupts At Edgewood Towne Centre

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Edgewood Police continue to look for suspects following a mid-afternoon shooting spree Thursday that broke out in Edgewood Towne Centre.

Police are getting investigative assistance from Allegheny County Police after a call came in just before 3 p.m. about gunshots ringing out at the South Braddock Avenue plaza, which is a busy shopping area that has witnessed several other recent shooting incidents.

Villa store employee Chris Whiting said, "I was working in the store as usual, and I heard three gunshots, so I hurried up and got out of the way, going to the back of the store."

Police said two men were in the store, and when a third man came in, shots were exchanged.

Edgewood Police Chief Robert Payne said the shooting continued outside the store in the parking lot as the three men jumped into two separate cars and took off through the lot onto South Braddock Avenue.

Just last month, police reported about a dozen shots were fired at a jitney outside a wine and spirts store at the shopping center. No one was hurt.

And, two years ago this month, three bystanders were wounded by gunfire when a similar shooting spree erupted in the shopping plaza.

Chief Payne told KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti, "We are worried about people who are shopping here, and we're worried about our officers, too. They could just come across something like this and get caught in the crossfire. There are too many guns, and too many young people pulling triggers."
