New Charges Filed Against Man Accused Of Torturing Woman In Westmoreland Co.

WESTMORELAND COUNTY (KDKA) -- A man from Latrobe, who is accused of holding a woman captive and torturing her, was in court Monday morning for a preliminary hearing.

New charges were filed against Glenn J. Whittier in court. Whittier was to face felony aggravated assault, simple assault and false imprisonment charges.

KDKA has learned that the Westmoreland County Prosecutor's Office will add criminal attempted homicide to that list.

Whittier is accused of abusing Stacey Evans. Investigators say Whittier repeatedly beat Evans with a hammer, slammed her head against the furniture, pulled out sections of her hair, poured bleach into her eyes and into her open wounds.

After a three days, she escaped.

She went to her daughter's house in Latrobe, and that's when family members called police.

"She came over here and had all kinds of bruises. Couldn't walk or talk," says Cody Ghrist, a relative.

Evans was taken to UPMC Presbyterian with bleeding on the brain, two black eyes, swollen lips and two broken ribs.

Neighbors say it's not the first time they suspected abuse.

"It's about the millionth time," says Tracey Mehalic, a neighbor. "I've called police numerous times."

Whitter is charged with domestic abuse in the Westmoreland County prison on $100,000 bail.

Monday morning's hearing was continued. Whittier will be back in court at a later date.
