Vet Clinic Office Manager Charged With Taking Thousands From Business

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - A woman who used to work as an office manager at a veterinary clinic in Hempfield Township is accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the business.

According to court paperwork, Jill M. Lender, 45, of New Stanton, is charged with multiple felony theft counts and other charges related to the case. She allegedly stole $269,447 from KVet Animal Care Inc. between October of 2010 and November of 2014.

Company representatives noticed some booking discrepancies while Lender went on extended sick leave last year.

After a forensic audit, investigators discovered over a four year period, $168,000 more in cash was received by the business than deposited in the bank.

Thirty of the 48 months analyzed, no deposits were made.

The forensic audit also shows Lender allegedly deleted clinic account transactions in cash from the practice accounting program, and she is also accused of redeeming $3,200 in vendor reward programs.

When KDKA went to Lender's home for comment, we were told to get off the property.

"Private property, get out of here. You're on a private road, you're trespassing, get out of here."

Representatives with KVet also declined comment, but told KDKA by phone that they are making progress in cleaning up the financial mess.

Lender has been fired.

She is now free on $150,000 bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing next week.
