Tri-Axle Truck Crashes Over Hillside In Portersville

PORTERSVILLE (KDKA) -- Two people were taken to the hospital after a multi-vehicle accident in Butler County.

It happened just before 4 p.m. on Route 488 in Portersville.

A tri-axle truck and several vehicles collided on Route 19 and the truck ended up crashing over a hillside.

"First, I heard a loud pop. I guess the tri-axle that's over the hill, they blew a tire and then he started fishtailing, and he hit the pickup truck that's there, and then he clipped the guardrail, took out the power lines, and then he rolled about four or five times over the hill, and he's carrying a load of sand in there, so there's sand everywhere," said Carrie Cromike, a witness. "It's a mess down there. It's was weird to watch; it's like it was in slow motion."

Rescue crews couldn't get to the truck driver right away because the cab of the truck was tangled in power lines.

The crash brought wires down across Route 19.

The road had to be shut down while crews cleared the scene.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital, but it appears they will be okay.
