Suspect Sought After Stealing Package From Squirrel Hill Home

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - David Bertenthal is currently working with Pittsburgh Police Detectives to find the person who stole a package off of his porch.

He says he set up a camera on the outside of his house just for fun - never knowing that the footage that it collected would be handed over to police as evidence.

The Squirrel Hill native was out of town at the end of January, when he got an alert from Amazon that his shipment of computer products had arrived on his Boulevard Drive doorstep.

Then, he found out that the $300 package wouldn't be there when he got home.

"I was just logged in in the morning to check my video camera and then saw what happened. I saw somebody so deliberately walking up to the porch like he's supposed to be there and just taking the package. I was in shock when I first saw it," he said.

He was able to get the package replaced and started working with Pittsburgh Police and the U.S. Postal Service Police to track down the thief.

Berthenthal put his video and pictures on his blog hoping someone will recognize the man and call police.

He said the camera also caught some teenagers going through his wife's car and that while his neighbors haven't had the same experience, they want the technology.
