Fans Line Up For Pirates' First Free Ticket Tuesday Giveaway

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The line forms early at Waterworks Market District as Pirate fans await the arrival of a Parrot bearing gifts. At high noon, the big bird makes his way toward the gathering throng with 50 pairs of free tickets.

"We got here at nine," says Bucs fan Kelly Brick. She and her young son Ryan are first in line for tickets they won't even use.

"We're going to do something special, just me and him, while dad and sister are at the game," she explains.

It's the season's first Free Ticket Tuesday. The Pirates website alerts fans to ticket giveaways at various locations.

"I'm probably going to head up to 50 games this year," one fan says.

He's happy to add that now the April 15 tickets won't cost him a cent.

The Parrot had only had 50 pairs of tickets, and there were more than 50 pairs of people in the line. So when the tickets are gone, the shirts go on. Fans got Pirate tee-shirts as a consolation prize.

The last pair of tickets went to Tim Aldridge of Sewickley. He feels lucky. When he was counting heads in front of him, he thought he'd be number 53.
