Police: Shaler HS Security Guard Admits To Bomb Threat, Fire

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – One person has been arrested in connection with a bomb threat and a small fire at Shaler Area High School.

And police say it wasn't a student.

The person in charge of looking out for the safety of students is the one who is facing charges.

Back in March, Shaler Police investigated a bomb threat written on the wall of the boy's bathroom.

And on Wednesday, Police were also called to investigate a small fire in the boy's bathroom.

While investigating, police noticed similarities in the handwriting used in security guard 20-year-old Lawrence Jetter's report and the writing used in March's bomb threat.

"We did an interview with him and through the process of that interview one of our detectives actually noticed that his writing in his report was very similar to that in the bomb threat that was on the wall," said Shaler Township Police Lt. Sean Frank. "And when he was questioned about it, eventually he came forward and admitted to both crimes."

He also told police he didn't mean any harm and did not actually bring any explosives into the school.

Police say Jetter also admitted to finding a mini yellow lighter in the school parking lot Wednesday and setting some toilet paper on fire in the boy's bathroom.

Jetter is facing several felonies, including arson, reckless endangerment and terroristic threats.

He is currently in the Allegheny County Jail on a $10,000 straight bond.
