Pirates Make PNC Park Renovations With Fans In Mind
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Pirates will open up the home portion of the 2015 season today at PNC Park.
During the offseason, the Pirates were hard at work making improvements to the stadium.
It's no secret that PNC Park is one of Major League Baseball's gems, but how do you improve what's already great?
The answer is listening to the fans.
"We think we have the best park in the world. So, to be able to build off of a great foundation, a lot of its polish, a lot of it's just building what the fans have asked for," Drew Cloud said.
That polish comes in the form of renovations and brand new construction.
Fans will notice new spaces for groups to rent out such as The Porch, Pirates Business Center and the Pirates Deck.
A previously closed off portion of the Hall of Fame Club will also feature new two-level terraces.
There are also two new bars. The Terrace Bar is full service with beer and liquor.
"We wanted to have a space for our many fans who enjoy the game in the 300-level of PNC Park," Pirates President Frank Coonelly said.
The Corner Bar features craft beers and is highly accessible to fans. It will offer a total of 44 different kinds of beer from 21 breweries.
"The beer today has just taken off and to be able to offer small hometown brewing type things, local favorites is just fantastic," Aramark's Stephen Musciano said.
For the tech-savvy fan, the Pirates have also added free WI0Fi around the stadium.
"We're complete Wi-Fi enabled now – PNC Park. So, you'll always be connected. It really began because we know that -particularly the younger fans - they need to be connected. They love to be on social media. They love to share the experience that they're experiencing at the ball park with others. So, in order to do that, they have to be able to get onto their smartphones and now, they'll be able to jump on our Wi-Fi, which is free, and be connected during the entire time in the ballpark," Coonelly said.
