Remains Of 4 Dead Dogs Found In Shallow Creek In Butler County
CLEARFIELD TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Police are investigating after a father and his young son made the gruesome discovery of the remains of four dead dogs just off of the side of a local road near the Butler County-Armstrong County border.
Clearfield Township resident Nick Curzi was out with his 6-year-old son, walking along McGrady-Hollow Road, looking for tin cans.
Curszi said they spotted the remains of what they first thought was one dog near a drainpipe that empties into a shallow creek.
Further investigation revealed the remains of four dogs near the drainpipe.
One of the dogs was wrapped in a green, plastic garbage bag. A female pit bull had a visible gunshot wound to the back of the head.
Wounds to the other dogs weren't noticeable.
"It was no accident," Curzi said. "Those dogs, I think, were definitely dumped down there by someone."
"Even if they were running together in a group, it would be highly unusual for them to get hit by a car and wind up in that position. It's just not a reasonable scenario," said Deborah Urmann, a former humane officer.
Urmann contacted state police and removed the remains from the shallow creek.
"We can do radiographs and X-rays to see if there's metal density. A bullet or bullet fragments would show up in that kind of test," New Kensington veterinarian Dr. Becky Morrow said.

Another Clearfield resident, John Compton, Jr. told KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti that his pit bull, named Josie, disappeared about five weeks ago.
She was found on Good Friday with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
"Somebody took her brand new collar off her; and I guarantee you, she was sitting there looking at whoever shot her, wagging her tail, I guarantee you," Compton said.
