Prepare For Parkway West Roadwork When Heading To Weekend Games

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – So much work, so little time.

And PennDOT knows, with everything going on in the North Shore this weekend.

KDKA's Heather Abraham has more on the detour:

"We've been working with the Pirates on this plan for months," said Dan Cessna with PennDOT.

And the plan means opening weekend of Pirates baseball will feature a full closure of the inbound Parkway West from Interstate 79 to Green Tree.

"We have about six full closures that we need to do on the Parkway West to get the paving done," Cessna said.

Of course, on the North Shore the Pirates will be hosting the Brewers and there are Zambelli fireworks after the game Saturday night, which always packs them in. So if you are coming to the game from the West and you don't want to miss the first pitch:

"We really would recommend that if folks can travel Interstate 79 and take Route 65 into the North Shore, it would be a much more trouble free commute than trying to navigate the detour route," said Cessna.

There's also paving planned for Greentree Road this weekend.

"We will not have construction on both routes at one time," said Cessna. "It would just be too confusing."
