Francisco Cervelli: New Opportunity With Pirates

PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli joined Bob Pompeani Saturday. While he liked his time in New York with the Yankees, he is excited to be a member of the Pirates after an offseason trade.

"I played with great players and I learned so many things (in New York), but here, it's a new opportunity, a new life. I'm on a team where everybody's on the same page, everybody's hungry to win, and it feels amazing," Cervelli said.

In the series against the Detroit Tigers, Miguel Cabrera earned the ire of Pirates fans by knocking the ball out of Cervelli's hand after striking out. But Cervelli told Pompeani that he was not upset by Cabrera's actions.

"I've known Miguel for a long time, so there's not any problem. We always play around, joke around, he always talks from the dugout and every time he comes to hit, I'm talking too," Cervelli said. "It's nothing crazy, just the way we do things."

Pompeani said that it looks like Cervelli has fun behind the plate. Is that the key to his success?

"I think you have to enjoy, no matter what happens. Because you don't know for how long you're going to do this," Cervelli said.
