Gerrit Cole Named National League Pitcher Of The Month

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The bats may be struggling at the start of the season for the Pirates, but the team's rotation has been lights out, and a key piece of that equation has been Gerrit Cole.

Coming off an April in which he went 4-0 in five starts with an ERA of 1.76 and 35 strikeouts in 30.2 innings of work, Cole was named the National League Pitcher of the Month.

The 24-year-old Cole held his opposition to a .198 batting average in the month of April giving us just 22 hits and 8 walks.

This is the first time Cole has won a Pitcher of the Month award and is the first Pirates pitcher to win the award since Randy Tomlin in June of 1992.

Cole beat out Johnny Cueto of the Reds, Zack Greinke of the Dodgers, Michael Wacha of the Cardinals and Bartolo Colon and Matt Harvey of the Mets for the award.
