Gas Leak Prompts Evacuations In Ligonier Borough

WESTMORELAND COUNTY (KDKA) – A gas leak has prompted evacuations in Ligonier Borough.

Several homes and businesses are being evacuated after construction workers hit a gas line.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. off of West Main Street, near College Avenue.

People from all around could hear the rushing of the gas as soon as it happened.

Officials then immediately called for a mandatory evacuation. The evacuation area is from Route 30 to Hickory Street and from College Avenue to where Route 30 meets the bottoms side of Ligonier.

The Catholic schools near Trinity have been evacuated as well.

Locals say you could smell natural gas in the area.
