Shaler H.S. Security Guard To Stand Trial After Bomb Threat, Fire

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A security guard arrested in connection with a bomb threat at a local high school will stand trial.

Lawrence Jetter, 20, was arrested in April for a bomb threat and small fire at Shaler Area High School.

Today, Jetter appeared in court, where he was held for trial.

In March, Shaler Police investigated a bomb threat written on the wall of the boy's bathroom.

High school principal Tim Royall was the first to take the witness stand on Thursday at Jetter's preliminary hearing. Royall testified he called security then police when he learned of the threat.

School officials described the scene at the school on the day of the threat as hysterical. But they had no idea who had written it until weeks later.

That's when a fire was reported in another bathroom at the school. Jetter wrote up a report on the fire.

Officials noted the handwriting in that report seemed to match the handwriting from the threat weeks earlier. When questioned, authorities say, Jetter reportedly admitted to being responsible for both.

"We feel very confident once all of the facts come out that the good things that Mr. Jetter has done will come to light," said defense attorney Jill Sinatra. "We feel confident we will reach a satisfactory resolution in this case."

Neither Jetter nor school representatives wanted to comment directly after the hearing.

Jetter was held over on all counts for both the fire and the bomb-related threat, including risking a catastrophe. He remains free on bail.
