Drugs Seized, 14 Arrested In Extensive Clairton Raid

CLAIRTON (KDKA) – Dozens of officers from county and local agencies raided numerous homes in Clairton Friday morning.

The United States Attorney's Office says this drug round up in Clairton started this morning around 6 a.m. and the operation was led by the FBI.

While police activity in Clairton isn't new for residents, the amount of police presence was impressive.

"I've never seen like Humvees and the big black SWAT trucks. Usually, you see a couple vans, couple squad cars, but not like the artillery they brought in today. So, yeah it was pretty crazy," Rudy Sanutelli said.

The FBI joined local and county police to raid numerous homes and vacant buildings along Miller Avenue and Saint Clair in downtown Clairton.

It was an organized operation with SWAT vehicles, officers standing guard on the ground with guns and on the lookout from the roofs.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, this effort is one that was executed after a lengthy investigation.

"They were bringing boxes out, but you couldn't really see what was in them, but there's drugs all over the place here," Sanutelli said.

Heroin, crack, cocaine and guns were all seized and 14 people were taken into custody.

It's a small relief for those who've become well aware of what has happened in their community.

"I feel safer and I'm going to tell you like I tell all my buddies, when it gets dark, I go inside. I don't care how warm it is outside, I go inside," Hercules Jamison said.
