Alan Alda Delivers CMU Commencement Speech

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – More than 3,000 Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral degrees were handed out at Carnegie Mellon University Sunday.

Emmy-Award winning actor Alan Alda delivered the commencement address.

He's best known for roles on MASH and the West Wing.

Alda received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree.

He told the graduates to prepare for uncertainty.

"Uncertainty usually comes from the outside, but sometimes it can come from your own heart," said Alda. "If you are suddenly up against a situation where you remember what your own principles are, what your values are, sometimes the choice can be difficult."

Brooke Kuei, who graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in physics and a minor in professional writing, was the student speaker.
