Suspect Sought After Killing Family's Dog, Injuring Second

INDIANA COUNTY (KDKA) -- Police are looking for the person who shot and killed one dog, and injured another.

The dogs' owner says the animals were stolen from her yard in Green Township. Someone shot her beagle, Sady, and then dumped the animal's body.

A second dog, a 3-year-old beagle named Marley, was stolen and also hurt, but survived. She cowers at the sight of strangers and hobbles around on a gun shot-injured leg.

"She's kind of scared and skittish toward everybody," said Marley's owner, Teresa Gibbons.

A few nights ago, the Gibbons family returned to their home and knew something was wrong.

"We came home and found our door halfway open," said Gibbons. "Went into the house, nothing missing, only our dogs were gone."

The Gibbons' frantically searched for their animals. Sady was first discovered 2 miles away on Route 240.

"She was either shot or died of a blunt force trauma to the head," said Gibbons.

Shortly later, she found out Marley's fate.

"She found a dog ... with a gunshot wound to her leg," Gibbons said.

A woman spotted the surviving animal alive on Allison Road, more than 4 miles away.

"We at least got one back, but the pain's still fresh," said Gibbons.

She says the people who did this are monsters.

Gibbons says she thinks the people who did this are some folks she's clashed with lately.

"If you have a problem with a man, come to his door," she said. "Do not hurt his defenseless animals or his children. I guess they just wanted their payback, and they got it. Hopefully they don't get away with it."

State Police in Indiana want anyone with information to give them a call.
