Children's Hospital Holds Special Prom For Patients

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - It was a night they won't soon forget.

Patients at Children's Hospital had the chance to forget all about their sickness and just be kids again.

From beautiful dresses to the big smiles, it was certainly an enchanted evening.

The staff held an "Under the Sea" themed prom, with decorations, dancing, a photo booth and more.

"I got my face painted and I'm going to do some arts and crafts. I got my picture taken with a sea turtle," Luke Maeding said.

Patients of all ages had the chance to relax and forget about testing, treatments and being sick, even if it was just for a few hours.

"It kind of takes my mind off of it. I got pampered, people did my hair and makeup and I feel like the belle of the ball," Megan Zubalik said.

The patients were able to keep their dresses, or tuxedo shirts to take home someday.

The best part was no one was left out.

Separate mini proms were held on units where the patients couldn't leave their rooms or floors for medical reasons.

"The kids are so cute, they're so happy and they're just so carefree. It takes their mind off of being in the hospital for a little bit and I think that's really cool," Zubalik said.
