Police Seize Thousands Of Dollars In Heroin, Cash In North Versailles Drug Bust

NORTH VERSAILLES (KDKA) -- Police in North Versailles have charged a suspect after seizing thousands of dollars' worth of heroin at an apartment complex Thursday in what they call a "very large bust."

Police say the bust happened around 2:30 p.m. at the Versailles-Castle Apartments.

Investigators say they used a confidential informant to make a controlled buy, and then arrested the suspected dealer following a brief chase into a wooded area.

"This was going to be a controlled buy," said North Versailles Police Officer Todd Corbett. "As the buy was going to go down, the suspect fled - him and another subject actually - and [was] apprehended by North Versailles Police officers."

The bust was the result of a three-month investigation involving North Versailles, McKees Rocks and Swissvale police.

The Allegheny County District Attorney's Office is also investigating.

In addition to the heroin, police say they seized cash and cell phones.

"It was a three-month drug investigation that led to a large seizure of approximately 33 bricks of heroin, $3,000 in cash, a street value of probably, anywhere in between $10,000 to $12,000," said Officer Corbett.

The suspect is being charged with possession with intent to deliver, and drug paraphernalia and intent to deliver counts.
