Fayette Co. Woman Accused Of Stealing $24K From Youth Football League

FAYETTE COUNTY (KDKA) – A Fayette County woman is accused of stealing from children who play football for the Albert Gallatin Youth Football League.

With more than $24,000 missing from the Albert Gallatin youth football league's account, officers say they were hurting and the community no longer trusted the organization.

"Undergarments, I believe there were car parts, guns, ammunition on there, just the list that -- it's an extensive list," said former league president Jana Detrick.

Detrick says the criminal complaint indicates that's what the accused bought with $24,102 from the league's account.

"I just can't even imagine what would cross someone's mind to think that it's OK to take from children and that's what she did," she said.

The suspect is 33-year-old Candace Nicole Davis, also known as Candace Byrd Davis.

She was president of the Albert Gallatin Youth Football League from 2012 until 2013.
Through her attorney, she sent the league a letter, resigning.

Davis also reportedly sent two checks to the league totaling $7,900.

Davis Allegedly made 289 fraudulent transactions on the league's account, including more than $13,000 in ATM withdrawals.

"Her answer was 'it was a mistake, I used the wrong card.' You don't use the wrong card over 200 times," Detrick said.

Hurt by all of this is the 100 children in grades K through 6 who play football.

"They wanted to repossess the kids' uniforms because we owed them almost $9,000 for uniforms," Detrick said.

The league is back in the black and has changed the way money is being handled by officers.

KDKA spoke with attorney Brent Peck on the phone. He represents Davis and says he doesn't understand why the story has gotten so much momentum, and then he said "no comment."

And Davis, who lives in New Salem, did not answer her door.

She is free on a $25,000 bond.

Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 9 in central court in Uniontown.
