Mom Arrested After Being Found Passed Out Behind Wheel With Baby In Car

OVERBROOK (KDKA)- A local mother is facing charges, after police officers found her passed out behind the wheel of her car, with a baby in the back seat.

Officers were called to reports of an unresponsive woman behind the wheel of a car in the 800-block of Maytide Street in Overbrook.

When officers arrived, they found 31-year-old Nichole Brown slumped over the wheel of her vehicle, which was still running. Officers say the car was in drive and Brown's foot was on the brake. Officers added that there was a burning cigarette in her right hand.

An officer opened the door, placed the vehicle into park and shut off the car. He then woke up Brown. There was a baby in a car seat in the back seat.

According to the criminal complaint, Brown told the officers she had taken her prescribed Suboxone and some Soma, which is a muscle relaxer. She told officers she normally takes her medicine before she goes to bed, but her back was acting up on Thursday.

Officers say Brown's speech was mumbled and slurred and she seemed confused. When police told her she was going to jail, Brown became upset and started crying.

Brown's step-father was able to take custody of the child, while officers took her to UPMC Mercy Hospital for a blood test. She was then taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

She was charged with driving under the influence and endangering the welfare of a child.
