PyroFest Returns To Butler County
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- What appears to be trash - tubes and metal poles strewn on a hillside at Cooper's Lake Campground in Butler County - will produce brilliant fireworks shows Friday and Saturday night.
Pyrofest is back.
Pyrofest director Derek Weber says the world's biggest fireworks show just got bigger.
"We're expanding to two days. It's a much bigger site than we had, probably three times the size. So not only can we add more pyro to it, we can even on the event side add more things. We have an expanded kids' site, and more food concessions that are here."
Ten shows will be spread over two nights, including world renowned Ricaso fireworks of Spain. Ricardo Caballer is the fourth generation leading the family business. His production will close Pyrofest Saturday night.
"Because this is my third year here, expectation is going to be bigger each time, and I want this to be the best show," he says.
Though he's produced fireworks for Olympic Games and hundreds of other events, he still gets nervous before each show.
"Always. Always," he says. "You know more about the show. You know more about the technology. And then you are very nervous because you want to have everything under control, and this is very difficult."
He says his whole show is one big "grand finale."
"No waiting for the finale When we finish, they have to say, 'Oh, I want one more.'"
