Police Investigating Hazelwood Attempted Child Luring

HAZELWOOD (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Police are investigating an alleged attempted child luring in Hazelwood.

According to police, the incident happened in the 5000-block of Second Avenue around 6 p.m.

Two girls, ages 9 and 10, were playing when a man in a red pickup truck approached them.

"We had an incident where two children reported a man attempted to lure them into his truck while they were outside playing," said Sonya Toler, the Pittsburgh Police spokesperson.

The girls quickly ran away and the suspect took off toward Greenfield Avenue.

"They were wise enough to run and report what happened, so he didn't have any interaction with the children," said Toler.

The suspect was described as an older white male with a scruffy, gray beard.

The incident has left people in the neighborhood worried.

"It's scary," said Kayla Pitzarella, of Hazelwood. "It's scary cause I have a 4-year-old daughter."

"It was pretty scary. My kids were up on that street playing," Sarah Able, also of Hazelwood, said. "You have to teach your kids stranger danger or these people are going to get away with what they're doing."
