1 Dead, 5 Injured In Indiana Co. School Van Crash

CHERRYHILL TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- The driver of a school van was killed and several others injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Indiana County.

The crash happened just before 4 p.m. on Kenwood Road at Route 403 in Cherryhill Township.

According to state police, the driver the school van was headed north on Route 403 when the driver of an SUV heading south swerved, crossed the center line and hit the van head-on.

The driver of the school van was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released, but police say she was a 37-year-old woman from Clymer.

A 68-year-old passenger in the van suffered major injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.

Three students who were also in the van, ages 6, 9 and 10, were also hurt. Two were taken to Children's Hospital for treatment. There's been no word on their conditions.

The driver of the SUV suffered major injuries and was taken to Altoona Hospital. He has not been identified either, but police say he's a 25-year-old man from Clymer.

Both vehicles sustained severe damage.

Authorities are investigating the accident.
