Woman Accused Of Trying To Rob Dollar General, Stabbing Employee

BELLEVUE (KDKA)- A woman is behind bars, accused of trying to rob a Dollar General store and stabbing the manager in the process.

Donna Turner, 49, was arrested late Saturday night in Bellevue.

Police say Turner tried to rob the Dollar General store in the 400-block of Lincoln Avenue.  According to the criminal complaint, Turner told officers she needed to rob the store because she needed rent money.

Police say Turner wrapped two pieces of wood inside a black shirt so it would like a gun. She was also carrying a large knife. They say she hid inside a storage room until the store closed. She then waited for the employees to go back to the manager's office to count the money.

Police say Turner charged at the employees and yelled to give her the money. She stabbed one of the employees in the his left forearm. The injured employee wrestled with Turner and was able to hold her down until police arrived.

Police officers had to break the front window the store to gain access and take Turner into custody.

Bellevue Police Chief Matt Sentner said one of his officers acted fast by putting a tourniquet on the store employee.

Doctors say it likely saved the man's life.

"Ironically, he had just attended training a few weeks ago and received that tourniquet at the training and was able to use it," Chief Sentner said.

The Dollar General store employee is still at the hospital listed in stable condition.

Turner faces charges of aggravated assault, robbery, attempted murder and recklessly endangering another person.
