WVU Completes Purchase Of Mountain State Campus

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia University has sealed its purchase of the former Mountain State University campus in Beckley.

WVU President Gordon Gee says the deal was completed Monday, and the university hopes to offer classes at the Beckley campus by fall 2016.

Carolyn Long, campus president of the WVU Institute of Technology, will lead the WVU Beckley campus while continuing her leadership role at Tech.

WVU entered into a due diligence agreement in November. An initial review period was extended, and on Dec. 31 WVU offered to buy the Beckley campus land and assets for $8 million.

The Mountain State board accepted the offer, pending court approval, which was granted Jan. 16.
