Bloomfield Man Arrested For Sexual Assault Of Family Member

BLOOMFIELD (KDKA)- Pittsburgh Police have arrested a Bloomfield man accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile.

James Veenstra, 53, was arrested this week on several sex-related charges, including aggravated indecent assault, sexual assault, corruption of minors and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

The now-adult woman told investigators it started when she was just 4 years old. She told police Veenstra would sleep in bed with her when she visited the Bloomfield home, saying sometimes he would sleep naked.

In an interview, the victim said Veenstra began touching her and making her touch him and also making her perform sex acts on him.

She said this continued until she was 9 years old, according to court papers. The woman said Veenstra told her to not to tell her mother and she explained to investigators that she never did because she felt what happened was "normal."

It's believed, based on court papers, that Veenstra lives on Hartman Street on the North Side.

While police have not said outright they think anyone else was assaulted, they encourage any other potential victims to call the Pittsburgh Sex Crime Unit ay (412)-323-7141.

Veenstra is facing charges of sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and corruption of minors.

Veenstra is being held in the Allegheny County jail on $5,000 bail. He will be in court on June 10 for a preliminary hearing.
