Pirates Prospect Josh Bell 'Happy And Blessed' To Be In Pirates Organization

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - He's the  No.1 first base prospect in all of Major League Baseball and is currently crushing all opposition at the AA level with the Altoona Curve.

Josh Bell joined the Starkey and Mueller show to talk about the year he is having and his transition from the outfield to first base.

Bell has walked more than he has struck out this year and told us about his approach at the plate.

"It's part of my game right now," Bell said. "I feel like that's the best at-bat I can produce for my teammates, just making sure I get the barrel to the ball. I feel like I'm pretty good at it and it's working out in my favor right now."

Bell has just one home run this year but has seven doubles and five triples and discussed whether or not he feels the pressure to develop into more of a power hitter right now.

"It all depends on who I become in the next few years," Bell said about what type of hitter he thinks he can become in the majors. "Some of those pitches I could be driving out of the park, I might just mishit them, but for the most part, when I'm getting hittable pitches, I put them in play pretty hard and that's why my average is up there."

Bell is hitting .330 right now for the Curve.

Click the audio link below to hear more from Bell on why he decided to forego a scholarship from Texas to sign with the Pirates out of high school, how happy he is to be in the Pirates organization and why the outside-the-box training methods the Pirates have used in the past seem to be working for him and his teammates.
