Elizabeth Borough Residents Asked To Remain In Homes After Chemical Plant Fire
ELIZABETH BOROUGH (KDKA) - Residents in Elizabeth Borough were asked to stay in their homes following a fire at a chemical plant late Saturday night.
According to emergency dispatchers, the fire broke out around 11:30 p.m. at Eastman Chemicals in the 2200-block of Route 837 in Jefferson Borough.
Officials say a small explosion occurred in one of its processing units. No one was injured.
For a short period of time, all residents were asked to stay in their homes as a "shelter in place" was issued. It was lifted around 1:30 a.m.
A HAZMAT crew was called to the scene shortly before midnight.
The plant specializes in creating hydrocarbon resins used in a variety of products like adhesives and sealants.
