Sex Offender Arrested In East Liberty After Escaping House Arrest

EAST LIBERTY (KDKA)- A convicted sex offender is back behind bars after escaping from his house arrest.

Back in 2013, Keith McDaniel pleaded guilty to indecent assault, indecent exposure, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children.

Police say McDaniel sexually assaulted his former girlfriend's 11-year-old daughter. He later pleaded guilty to the charges, served a little over a year in jail and then was sentenced to six months house arrest.

He's required to register as a sex offender for 15 years and not have any contact with underage children. He registered as a sex offender in the 1200-block of Hodgkiss Street on the North Side.

But, the Allegheny County Sheriff's office says he escaped the house arrest.

On Monday night, deputies tracked down McDaniel to an apartment in the 600-block of Collins Avenue in East Liberty.

When officers tried to enter the apartment, they noticed McDaniel trying to hide in a closet. He was taken into custody without incident.

Officers also found a 2-year-old girl in the apartment with McDaniel.

He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail and booked on several charges.
