Man Charged, Accused Of Assaulting, Pulling Knife On Pregnant Girlfriend

GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- A man is facing charges, accused of choking his pregnant girlfriend and pulling a knife on her in Westmoreland County.

This isn't the first time Azeez Akintayo, 24, of Baldwin, who is accused of threatening his girlfriend and their unborn child, has been in trouble with the law.

According to the criminal complaint, the incident happened on Friday just before 3 p.m. at the victim's apartment on West Otterman Street in Greensburg.

The victim told police she had just gotten home from the store after using her boyfriend's car. She told police her boyfriend, Akintayo, was saying hurtful things to her over the phone.

When she got inside the apartment, she says he grabbed her phone, so she took his keys, the criminal complaint reports. She says he then started trashing her house and threw her around.

The criminal complaint reports, the woman told investigators while she was allegedly being choked, she kept telling the suspect to stop because she was afraid for their unborn baby.

At that point, the complaint says Akintayo told her he didn't care about her or the baby and continued to break things.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim was holding her young daughter when she said the suspect kicked her while she was on the ground. Then, she says he allegedly grabbed a knife and put it to her neck and face.

She told him to stop and tried to get away but could not.

The criminal complaint reports, Akintayo also allegedly pointed the knife towards her stomach. Eventually, the victim was able to escape, and ran across the street to a pizza shop where the owner called 911.

The owner told KDKA's Amy Wadas off camera the victim needed help about a year ago for a different domestic situation, but wasn't sure if Akintayo was involved at that time.

Akintayo was released from jail on unsecured bond and faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault of an unborn child and terroristic threats.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 2.
