Crews Continue Search For Missing Man In Ohio River

MONACA (KDKA) - A man was swept away in the Ohio River Wednesday. Crews resumed their search Thursday morning.

Rescue boats and local divers hit the Ohio River in Monaca for day two of searching for 22-year-old Jason Moore.

Around noon, there was an unconfirmed report of a body being found. However, it was just a piece of wood. It was very difficult for family members clinging to any chance of hope.

Jason's mom, Becky, hoped her son would turn up last night, but he did not.

"I had to go home not knowing," she said.

A candle and one of his tennis shoes were placed at the edge of the dock where he was last seen Wednesday night.

It's a spot family members said he knew very well.

"[Jason] was raised on this river from Beaver Falls to Monaca. He was a strong and powerful fisherman. He knew the water. It only takes one chance. One thing to go wrong," his step-father, Robert Lee, said.

"My son was out here swimming in the river with his friends last night. He went under. They tried to get to him and no one could get to him," Becky said.

When Monaca Police got to the scene, they said he was about 100 yards away from the dock.

He eventually slipped out of sight.

Family and friends returned to the dock around 6 a.m. Thursday to do their own search until rescue crews arrived to resume their search.

Crews started searching around 8 p.m. and wrapped things up around 10 p.m. because it was too dark to see and the current was too strong.
