4th Of July Celebrations Take Place All Over Pittsburgh Region

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Fourth of July celebrations have been taking place all over the region.

And what better way to kick off the holiday festivities than with a flag raising?

Crowds stood around as colonial reenactors, the Girl Scouts and elected officials raised a 13-star, 36-foot American flag near the Fort Pitt Museum at Point State Park.

The American flag is the same size and star pattern that originally flew over Ft. Pitt more than 200 years ago.

Sounds from the Star Spangled Banner could be heard during the special event.

And in Canonsburg, the famous parade was underway.

KDKA's own Dave Crawley was the Celebrity Grand Marshal.

It's the second biggest parade in the state – and crowds filled the streets to make sure they didn't miss a thing.

And one of the oldest parades in the region took over Brentwood Saturday morning.

Two 100-year-old residents participated in the parade and shared their memories of Brentwood and the Pittsburgh region over 100 years ago.

Nearly 3,000 people participated in the parade this year – including 120 marching groups.

And an 89-year-old World War II veteran served as the grand marshal of the Latrobe parade.

Paul Krinock helped save 12 wounded men trapped near Brittany, France in 1945 while suffering from a leg wound.

He is a Purple Heart and Silver Star recipient, who was inducted into the Hall of Valor at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial hall in Oakland back in April.
