2 People Avoid Serious Injury In North Braddock House Explosion

NORTH BRADDOCK (KDKA) – Emergency officials were called to a house explosion in North Braddock Tuesday morning.

According to emergency dispatchers, the incident happened in the 200-block of Rebecca Street around 11 a.m.

Two people were inside the home and were able to get out with only minor injuries.

Bob Kosko was upstairs in a bedroom when the explosion happened.

"I was up, but I was in there getting my shorts on and all of a sudden, I didn't even grab my shorts and holy hell what happened?" Bob Kosko said. "I mean, I'm talking like double C4 or hand grenades. Everything was just coming - the walls, the TV, ceiling."

When everything stopped flying, his attention turned to his wife downstairs.

"I'm worried about my wife. I'm going down the stairs trying to find her, found her and she says we can't get out the door," Kosko said.

With a friend and a crowbar, the couple was able to make it out a back door.

They were able to get two dogs out of the house safely. However, one dog and three cats are unaccounted for.

Once emergency responders arrived at the scene, a one-block area was checked for gas, but nothing significant was found.

"The gas company just changed the meter a week ago - brand new meter," Kosko said.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
