Vandals Leave Vulgar Messages On Cars, Garages In Observatory Hill

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Graffiti vandals spray painted vulgar messages in Pittsburgh's Observatory Hill neighborhood overnight.

It happened near Northwood Avenue and Mt. Allister Road.

Nestled on the small side streets of Observatory Hill is one of the city's more quiet neighborhoods.

But around 4:45 a.m. Thursday, a newspaper delivery person reported to police that there were as many as 13 cars spray painted in the area, with pictures too distasteful to show on TV.

Jeffery Buck grew up there.

"I've been here a long time, and I wouldn't expect something like that," he said.

The paint was on cars and several garage doors in the area. There was even some on the surface of a neighborhood church parking lot.

People who live nearby were surprised at how much was painted in the area.

"They don't need to wake up in the morning to that," said Thomas Busha, an Observatory Hill resident.

A witness told police two black males and one white male, all juveniles, were seen in the area at the time, but no arrests have been made.

Busha says many blame a lack of recreational outlets for the kids.

"There may be nothing for them to do around here. We grew up here. We found things to do," he said.

By mid-day some of the handy work had been removed, but the neighborhood wants to see these overnight antics come to an end and fast.

Buck feels badly for those hit by the vandals.

"I feel bad for the people that this happened to," he said. "They're going to have to repaint the garage doors. This isn't going to come off very easily."

Police haven't made any arrests.
