Lawrence County Father Charged In Baby's Fall

UNION TOWNSHIP (KDKA)- A Lawrence County man has been charged with abusing his 4-month-old daughter.

Back in May, police were called by Children and Youth Services after a baby was taken to the hospital for a fractured skull. Doctors at UPMC Children's Hospital ruled that it was intentional blunt force trauma to the skull.

Yesterday, officers arrested the baby's father, Kim Paul Sankey of Union Township. He was charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children. Sankey is being held in the Lawrence County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

"At first, he didn't know what had happened," said Union Township Police Lieutenant Mark Julian. "Through our investigation, he did in fact drop the child as he fell asleep, as he stated to us."

The 4-month-old girl was taken to Children's Hospital and had a frontal head fracture. The infant is now with her mother and doctors say she should make a full recovery.
