Alleged Abduction Suspect Dead After Standoff At South Fayette Motel
SOUTH FAYETTE (KDKA) -- The suspect in an alleged abduction in Oklahoma is dead after a lengthy standoff with police and the FBI Saturday at a motel in South Fayette Township.
Law enforcement officials were first called to the scene around 4 p.m. at the Knight's Inn motel, just off of Interstate 79 near Bridgeville.
State police, Allegheny County Police, officers from several local municipalities, at least one police K-9, the SWAT team, the Allegheny County Bomb Squad and the FBI were all on scene.
"I just checked in and they asked me to evacuate my room. They were using it as a command center," said Tom Hunter, a guest at the motel.
The FBI says they received a tip that a man from the Pittsburgh area was staying at the motel with a teenage girl he allegedly abducted from Oklahoma and brought across state lines. The tip reportedly came from Duncanville, Oklahoma.
The man reportedly locked himself in his room. Police say they thought he would eventually surrender, but later took his own life.
At one point, police had their guns drawn as they surrounded the hotel.
They also checked out a jeep that was parked in the parking lot.
"This is just something you usually see on TV shows and think it can't be real, but I guess it is," said Hunter.
The road leading to the motel had to be blocked off for several hours, and flash bangs were heard at the scene around 9 p.m. The entrance to the Hampton Inn next door was also blocked off.
Authorities have not yet identified the suspect.
Meanwhile, the girl was taken to Children's Hospital to be checked out, but was not hurt. Her family in Oklahoma has been contacted.
