Fire Consumes Several Businesses In Fayette Co. Shopping Center

NORTH UNION TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A massive fire swept through a Fayette County shopping center Friday, destroying a methadone clinic and causing smoke damage to several businesses.

Witnesses used their cell phones to capture video of the roaring fire at the Mountain View Plaza in North Union Township.

"I got here at 7:30 and you couldn't even see nothing, you couldn't see this parking lot and above here," said Jill Bane, a witness.

Bane was there for a meeting in a building behind the plaza. She watched, amazed, as the flames grew.

"It was very, very bad," she said.

The building hardest hit was the methadone clinic at the end of the plaza. It was completely gutted. As the morning wore on, clients were told to come back later.

A physical rehabilitation center, a dental practice and tattoo parlor were closed all morning as damage assessments were done.

Video shared on the KDKA Facebook page shows thick flames coming from the building.
